Festival Information

How much stage time will performers receive?

There will be adequate time, but what that means in the Zoom world is in state of flux. Invited Troupes will have at least 1 possibly 2 performances. Each curated team will perform as the capstone to their intensive work. There will be opportunities to Jam the night away on Thursday and Sunday night to welcome and say goodbye to our friends around the world who are supporting the Festival.

What is the range of shows and styles the festival is seeking?

We welcome all forms but keep in mind that performing in a camera-based medium designed for other purposes requires a creative approach to determine what works in that world. We are looking for bold and adventurous approaches to the new virtual improv show. We are not concerned with perfection. We embrace imperfection as the catalyst for further innovation. Don't limit yourself to what you do face to face. Consider and improvise with what might be appealing in this medium. Any experienced improvisers who have a desire to be in the forefront of developing this format are encouraged to pitch an innovative Zoom performance idea. This means that if you are Vintage and you have non-Vintage team members who are great at Tech, of course we want them to participate with you.

What is the local improv scene like?

World-wide this year

What are the festival's goals?

Celebrate the create gifts of improvisers age 50 and over as we work, learn and play together. Increase multigenerational communication and mutual appreciation through outreach

What are the selection criteria for this festival?

Bold and adventurous spirit to tackle the innovations associated with virtual improvisation. At least intermediate level of improv experience. While the Festival will offer stand alone workshops for less advanced improvisers, performance tracks are designed for proficient, experienced improvisers who will be at least 50 years of age in 2020. Pre-existing Vintage Troupes should demonstrate adaptability in their approach through innovation with regard to their format when performing in Zoom. VIF will accept troupes based on pitches of concept that will be developed in the time leading up to the Festival

What unique improv experiences will performers gain?

It has all been said!

Dedicated to the proposition that comedy gets better with age, a Vintage Improv Festival (VIF) is a joyous celebration of the Art of Improvisation featuring improvisers who are at least 50 years old. Through performances and in learning community over one jam-packed weekend, each Festival is designed to support the Vintage community while reaching out to the general public through performance to foster intergenerational appreciation and communication. Sponsored by Vintage Improv Festival, Inc. a nonprofit organization based in the Boston Massachusetts area, the organization is committed to working with other cities to sponsor regional VIF spinoffs in order to meet the needs of a growing and underserved improv demographic.
