About The New York Musical Improv Festival 2017

(EXTENDED Late Submissions through July 22nd) The 9th annual New York Musical Improv Festival is proud to be the first-ever to focus solely on Musical Improvisation. The mission of the NYMIF is to elevate and celebrate the community of improvisors, actors, singers, and musicians from around the world who gather in NYC once a year to meet, perform and show off cutting-edge musical improv forms.

NYMIF is known as one of the most welcoming festivals in the country, our performers reapply and return year after year. Since the first festival in 2009, musical improv has exploded across the country with new programs starting every year. In NYC, musical house teams are now a staple at every major comedy theater.

Past festivals have featured everything from traditional musical improv (Baby Wants Candy, Premiere), improvised rock concerts (BTK Band, Reset List) to a one-woman improvised opera (La Donna Improvvisata), a fully costumed Dickensian musical (UnScripted Theater), improvised hip-hop (North Coast, Robopop), college teams, duo and solo shows, improvised Sondheim and Tony Award Winning performers from Broadway and Lincoln Center.
