About Femprovisor Fest 2019

Leela is proud to present, Femprovisor Fest '19!

We put womxn improvisors where they belong: center stage! April 25th-April 28th, 2019 @ The Exit Theatre, Downtown San Francisco!

Femprovisor Fest showcases diverse womxn*/feminist improv ensembles, comics and sketch groups in the San Francisco Bay Area and throughout the US. We produce workshops, panels, and shows with innovative artists who are committed to increasing the visibility of womxn in all areas of improvised performance.

This will be our sixth year! This year's theme is "Together We Break the Glass Ceiling!" This will be our first year exploring ways some non-womxn can help in the process of working together to lift womxn up and create more space for them on the improv stage, whilst still celebrating the predominantly womxn performers invited to perform at the festival.

Femprovisor Fest accepts submissions from diverse womxn/feminist improv ensembles, comics, sketch groups, and performance artists. Improvisation must be a part of the act’s process in some manner. Improvisation could be part of the act’s scripting process, and need not necessarily be a live improvised performance.

If you submit a show/ensemble that includes non-womxn performers, we ask that you tell us how your show/ensemble supports the mission of our fest---to increase the visibility of womxn and have an active womxn's presence on the improv stage.

Featured performers of past Femprovisor Fests include Virgin Daiquiri (CHI), Shulie Cowen (LA), Laura Hall, Tara DeFrancisco (CHI), Susan Messing (CHI), Lady Town (LA)- starring Maribeth Monroe (Workaholics), Jaime Moyer, and Kate Duffy, local favorites: Rachel Hamilton (The Second City) & Kimberly MacLean (BATS Improv), as well as Piano Fight's all ladies sketch group, Chardonnay, and Del Close Award Winners, Walk of Shame (LA). All four SF improv training centers were represented in all women improv ensembles from BATS Improv, Endgames Improv, Leela, and The Un-Scripted Theatre Company. Workshop instructors of years' past include Dina Facklis (CHI), Dana Quercioli (CHI), Mary Catherine Curran (CHI), Alison Gates (CHI), Colleen Doyle (LA), Amey Goerlich (LA), Jahnavi Dave (India), The Shrieking Harpies (Minneapolis), Amy Larimer (NY), Tara DeFranciso (CHI/ Columbus), Laura Hall (LA), Shulie Cowen (LA), Susan Messing (CHI), Jaime Moyer (LA), Kate Duffy (LA), Sunita Deshpande (NYC), Betsaida LeBron (Sacramento), Kaci Beeler and Valerie Ward (Austin), Lauren Morris (Winter Park, FL), Kat Brown & Amy Lisewski (San Diego), and SF/Bay Area locals, Rachel Hamilton, Maurissa Afanador, Allison Page, Chrysteena Lairamore & Jill Eickmann.
