Narrative Improv for Heroes

The "Hero's Journey" is a familiar storytelling technique, and this backbone of narrative storytelling can be found in a huge number of popular stories, from Ghostbusters to When Harry Met Sally. Learning this backbone, how to recognize its characters, archetypes, mise-en-scene, individual beats, when/how to deviate, and how to adapt the story beats for individual genres (and subgenres) can take your improvised storytelling from "zero" to "hero" in no time. Participants will leave with a functional one-sheet for a genre delved into in class that can be used to create narrative shows instantly. We will also work on pacing and the typical pitfalls of improvised storytelling common to all attempts.
