Travel Information


What venue(s) will be a part of the festival?

All shows are at Finest City Improv which seats 60 people. We are attached directly to the Lafayette Hotel and Bungalows. We are a 15 minute ride from the airport (about a $15 rideshare)


What lodging options are available?

We are attached to a great hotel. We get discounted room rates for all performers. This year is $139/night. A code is sent to accepted teams.


What transportation options are available?

Lyft and Uber are plentiful and cheap. San Diego airport is right in the city!


What dining options are available?

We have food and drink at the theater plus a groovy steak house next door and a nice hotel restaurant. You can also order food poolside. Across the street is a craft beer and chicken place, an African restaurant, and a Russian restaurant. Also, two blocks away are Denny's, a great pizza and beer place, and a Lebanese place.


What local events or attractions are available?

Beach, 140 craft breweries, USS Midway, Balboa Park, SD Zoo, and so much more. It is usually 70 degrees year-round and sunny šŸ™‚

How much stage time will performers receive?

25-30 minute sets
we have open jam sessions, too


What is the range of shows and styles the festival is seeking?

Mostly long form and we love clown, musical, genre, and other interesting fringe acts that use improv. We strive to create a very diverse festival and book 25% by random lottery.


What is the local improv scene like?

Super inclusive and welcoming. No focus on being "family-friendly".


What are the festival's goals?

To bring diverse teams and shows to San Diego in order to enrich our local improv community.


What are the selection criteria for this festival?

A group of over a dozen improvisers from our community select teams based on how engaging, fun, interesting, and unique each submission is.


What unique improv experiences will performers gain?

The San Diego Improv Festival is operated by Finest City Improv. Ā Finest City Improv was founded by Amy Lisewski in 2011 as a way to entertain, inspire and bring joy and laughter to the community of San Diego. From performers, to students, to loyal fans, and first time visitors, weĀ promise a playful and return-worthy experience with our commitment to sharing, teaching and connecting people with laughter.

Performances are every Thursday through Sunday in our cabaret theater in the North Park area of San Diego. Classes are available for all levels of improv students and instructed by an experienced teaching staff. OurĀ corporate workshops help teams of all sizesĀ collaborate more creatively and effectively, resulting in aa more engaged workforce and a better bottom line.
