The Dramatic Improv Festival 2020

September 11-13, 2020

Travel Information

What venue(s) will be a part of the festival?

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and out of an abundance of caution, The Dramatic Improv Festival 2020 will be moving entirely online.

Festival Information

How much stage time will performers receive?

Depending on the show, performers will get 25, 35, or 45 minutes per performance, with the higher-profile shows being allotted the longer slots. Depending on the availability of performing groups, multiple performances may be scheduled.

Given that this is all online, we will be setting up streaming shows and Zoom shows to follow pre-recorded performances.

What is the range of shows and styles the festival is seeking?

We are looking for anything that can be described as "dramatic" improvisation. This is not to say that it cannot have laughter, or that it must be something dark and dreary. It just must be something that can fit into that category.

If you're not sure, please feel free to email us before you submit, and we'll let you know whether your show fits the category. We can be reached at info@dramaticimprovfest.com.

What is the local improv scene like?

Since we're all online, the "local" scene is the worldwide improv scene!

What are the festival's goals?

The purpose of this festival is for performers, students, and instructors to cross-pollinate, perform, learn, and network. The world of dramatic improvisation is unique, complex, and layered, and we look forward to seeing everyone at the festival!

What are the selection criteria for this festival?

Performances that are selected will present their own unique take on dramatic improvisation. Each performance video will be hand-selected by our production team to demonstrate the best that dramatic, theatrical improvisation has to offer.

What unique improv experiences will performers gain?

Performers will have access to a wide variety of discounted and free workshops and cross-pollination opportunities, and a chance to see performances of dramatic/theatrical improvisation from around the world.

The Dramatic Improv Festival is intended to bring together performers, instructors, and students from all over the world to celebrate, perform, and learn the intricacies of improvisation seen through the lens of drama. This is our first year, and we look forward to seeing everyone in October!
