About Our Training Program

THE SECOND CITY HOLLYWOOD

Because life doesn’t come with a script!

Los Angeles is the world capital of the Entertainment Industry and The Second City is in the heart of it on Hollywood Boulevard. For 59 years The Second City has created a wealth of comedic material from a legendary group of performers such as Tina Fey, John Belushi, Rachel Dratch, Chris Farley, Jim Belushi, Steve Carell, Keegan-Michael Key and Stephen Colbert. The Training Center follows the traditions developed by these groundbreaking and innovative men and women while encouraging the continued growth and development of the art forms of comedy and improvisation. Today, The Second City Training Center is the largest school of improvisation and sketch comedy in the world.

We offer a variety of classes for students at any level of experience. Whether a seasoned performer or someone who's never been onstage, you are encouraged to take classes with us. Our students come from a diverse array of backgrounds, each with a unique accomplishment they wish to achieve with our courses. Whatever your reasons for taking classes with us, we are here to support you and help you grow your skills. In addition to our Improv Program we offer Improv 1 Intensives, a professional Conservatory program, Musical Improv, Long Form Improv, and an array of Comedy Writing and Writing for TV & Film classes, Stand-Up, Storytelling and a full Kids Program and Summer Camp for ages 6-18. Fridays 9:30pm: Opening Night: The Improvised Musical!® • May 4 - Aug 17
Opening Night: The Improvised Musical!® is exactly that - a Broadway-style musical that is made up on the spot, based on a single audience suggestion. Therefore, every night is the `Opening Night’ of a musical that has never been seen! Sadly, it is also the closing night, but closing night sounds so very final -- and not even this cast can withstand the damage done by weekly wrap parties. Since 1998, Opening Night's cast of veteran improvisers has combined Chicago and Los Angeles improv with the Broadway stylings of Rodgers & Hammerstein, Gilbert & Sullivan, and Andrew Lloyd Webber, resulting in over one thousand original musicals! Cast: Hilary Rowe, Matt Young, Norm Thoeming, Shulie Cowen, Mark McConville, and Derek Miller. Directed by Shulie Cowen. Musical Director, Michael Pollock. NOTE: Located on the 2nd floor with stair access only
