Lisa's Info

My teaching focuses on the intersection of acting and improv. If you're an improviser, performing scenes on a stage, then you are an actor. The acting is getting lost, and more often than not, two improvisers spend entire scenes just standing and talking. Object work has become an old school mime joke, but it can save your scenes. What I work on, aside from object work, is the WHERE and the WHY of object work. Including those, plus emotion, can not only save, but transform and elevate your scenes.

I've performed and seen a lot of improv in the last 28 years, and I've seen fear replace trust, and telling replace showing. I've seen tag-outs come right at the good part, and every type of fake stage-cigarette there is. Let's stop walking through each others' tables and put the theater back in improvisational theater.

Oh, and don't you also want to learn musical improv from an actual Broadway performer?

Lisa's Workshops

Don't Just Stand There

"I have had improv training with Lisa, including Don't Just Stand There and found her to be a knowledgeable and enthusiastic teacher. Class exercises are always fun and challenging and laser focused on the skills she is teaching. Lisa's class made me a better Improvisor and I will definitely be doing more training with Lisa. I found Lisa's class on object work, Don't Just Stand There, a wonderful opportunity to discover new ways to bring more object work to my scenes to enrich the worlds I create, give gifts to my scene partner and create a more interesting scene for the audience. I only wish the class was longer because Lisa has so much to share." - Rick Crawford, Chapel Hill, NC

"Lisa's enthusiasm, curiosity and sense of humor made taking her class so much fun. As a professional actor and teacher, she offered insights and skills that I had not been exposed to before. She did this without making me feel intimidated about my own level of training. I had a great time taking her class and left wanting more!" - Jennifer Van Vickle, Chapel Hill, NC

"I heartily endorse Lisa. Her teaching is solid and pulls from both scripted acting and improv." " - Carolyn Cole, Chapel Hill, NC
